Missing Post #2: A New Year's Eve for the ages

By KJ

With two packed coolers in tow, the stretch Escalade picked us up just before 7 p.m. as we were off to Waikiki to ring in the New Year in unprecedented fashion.

Murph really did his homework for this BIG event as the limo was sick and the dinner spot of Duke's was THE PLACE to be.

We had a prime reservation for all 11 of us about 25 feet from the beach and about 100 feet from the water. Dinner itself was amazing. They had a set menu with choices for all four courses and we stuffed our faces in an attempt to get a good base down for the night of boozing ahead.

At 11:45, we ordered one last drink in "to-go" cups and paid our bill so we could walk outside to get a better spot to view the fireworks.

The fireworks were great and the whole event was pretty much surreal for me. I was standing there in Hawaii, about 70 degrees out, wearing sandals and drinking a SoCo and Coke... on New Year's Eve?!?! It was really amazing and something that I'll never forget.

After the fireworks, it was game on!

We headed over to a local watering hole, called Lava Rock Lounge, and we kicked off the new year in classic fashion. The people watching at this place was like no other and we had a blast.

Highlights from the scene at the bar included: a sick DJ, a Lapa walk-by, about 10-20 drinks per person, a man getting "serviced" in the men's room, extending the time on our limo and a shot of SoCo for the road for me, Murph and Airasian.

Things got VERY interesting on the hour ride back to the North Shore. And by "interesting," I mean completely out of hand.

Murph's iPod was hooked into the limo sound system and we all really took our game to the next level. I have several videos from the scene in the limo, but I'm not sure if I can post them because they are VERY incriminating and could ruin a lot of us.

Highlights of the limo ride included: old-school rap, Murph on the air guitar, Murph the lyricist, pulling over to piss, Jamie enjoying her Sparkling Cider, a sneak peak at a horse race by Airasian (classic!) and killing beers.

We got tons and tons of footage (both photos and video) of the entire trip, but one thing that we probably all regret is only getting one big group photo. It was taken by the limo driver and is pretty solid... you can't really see Mike or Abby, but trust me, they were there.

The limo dropped off us around 4 a.m., but no chance was the night over. We headed back for a few more adult bevs, played a few horse races and then everyone (except Murph and I) went to bed at about 5:30 a.m.

What happened with Murph and I between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m. isn't really something I can explain, but it's something that the two of us and the seven people who were watching the live stream will never forget.

Highlights of the late-night debacle included: sunrise, attempting to stay up until someone else woke up, iChatting with Anna, Murph's two-finger salute for my wife and mother-in-law, learning at 7 a.m. that my mom had been watching the live stream for two hours and waaayyy too many "Starts with...rhymes with" lines.

Overall, this was one of the most fun nights I've ever had. Thanks so much Murph for doing so much research to figure out what to do and where to be. No thanks for the two-finger salute.
